SXSW 2016 Predatory Towing Expected by Austin Area Tow Companies

With SXSW events in Austin beginning this week, it’s expected, the predatory illegal towing of vehicles, without a doubt will occur. This year’s festivities like the prior years, left some of those who chose to drive the Austin for the numerous SXSW events will become victims of J&J Towing, Reliant Towing, Park Right Solutions, Austin Express and A&A Wrecker & Recovery.

Although the majority of tow companies have provided a legal tow sign, some like J&J Towing and Reliant Towing are still towing vehicles with an illegal tow sign posted. What may look like a legal sign, is in a fact an illegal tow sign due to missing or added verbiage on the sign, but John Q motorists just pays for their vehicles not realizing they were taken advantage of.

Illegal J&J Sign 1.31.16

Not one Central Parking lot throughout the downtown area is legal to tow any vehicle from due to the fact the tow signs do not meet the minimum requirements of State Law, not to mention, not facing the driver upon entering the parking lot.  The statutory phrase as required by State Law, that 95% of J&J’s tow signs fail to state is: “Unauthorized Vehicles Will Be Towed at Owner‘s or Operator‘s Expense“. You can clearly see the J&J tow sign above doesn’t state that.

The tow signs provided by unethical and morally dishonest Reliant Towing is equally as corrupt as J&J Towing, as Reliant has chosen to add additional language in this statutory phrase, “Unauthorized Vehicles Will Be Towed at Owner‘s or Operator‘s Expense”, by adding the word “the” as shown below.

With Reliant and J&J being members of the Southwest Tow Operators which is nothing more than a Ponzi Scheme, violating State Law is not uncommon.

Should your vehicle be towed from any parking lot during SXSW, it’s advised to use your cellphone to take a picture of the tow sign that is required to be posted near the street when you entered the parking lot, as this is part of the required documentation to fight these crooks in Court and file the TDLR complaints.
